Sumanta Kumar Das

Assistant professor

 I have a decade of research experience in quantum optics, quantum information, communication and quantum computing. In particular, my expertise lies in the study of light-matter interaction at the quantum regime with focus on superconducting qubits for quantum communication and computing. Additionally, I have several years of teaching experience in quantum optics, lasers, superconducting qubits, quantum algorithms and quantum information sciences. I am also interested in understanding how quantum computing and machine learning can be combined to solve challenging problems in drug desigining, optimization algorithms, finance sector and basic sciences.

Current research

My current research emcompasses the field of quantum nonlinear optics, quantum networks, hybrid systems and quantum computation with photons. I am trying to find novel methods and systems for generating strong nonlinearity at quantum levels. The aim is to harness the nonlinearity for achieving efficient photon-photon interaction at the quantum level - the holy grail of both nonlinear optics at and implementation of photonic logic gates for quantum information protocols. Furthermore, I investigate hybrid semiconductor-superconductor systems for developing efficient light-matter interfaces. Such interfaces has potential applications in quantum technologies like quantum nodes, memories and optical switches. I also work on engineering of decoherence for efficient generation and preservation entanglement - a key requirement for quantum information and computation.
