There is a pressing need for skilled climate scientists with excellent insight into advanced mathematical theories as well as the physics of the Earth system. A European scientist training programme, CriticalEarth, orchestrated by Peter Ditlevsen, Physics of Ice, Climate and Earth at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen is addressing the problem.
    CLIMATE RESEARCH:

The Niels Bohr Institute kick starts a new generation of climate scientists

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded a Consolidator Grant to Albert Schliesser, professor at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI), University of Copenhagen. Professor Schliesser’s group has been known for pioneering studies on measuring and controlling motion with a precision all the way down to the level where the fundamental, and sometimes bizarre laws of quantum mechanics rule.
    GRANT:

ERC grant to develop phononic quantum sensors at the Niels Bohr Institute

This scientific breakthrough concludes a long-lasting debate on the mechanisms causing abrupt climate change during the glacial period. It also documents that the cause of the swiftness and extent of sudden climate change must be found in the oceans.
    CLIMATE:

The climate changed rapidly alongside sea ice decline in the north
