High-energy astroparticles and transient sources

High-energy photons and neutrinos are powerful probes of the acceleration and interaction of cosmic rays in astrophysical environments. We discuss the production of cosmic rays and neutrinos in coincidence with photon flares, and examine physical processes that influence their detectability on Earth, for various categories of transient sources, and selected sources such as tidal disruption events and neutron star mergers. We show that future ultra-high energy particle detectors, such as GRAND and POEMMA, will play a key role in identifying the sources of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays and high-energy neutrinos.
