Title: The free energy of the nerve pulse and the effect of anesthetics
Abstract: Certain characteristics in some lipid membrane systems led Heimburg and Jackson, in 2005, to construct a new model about how a signal travels though the nerves. Contrary to the generally accepted by the scientific community model, this one explains a great deal of experimental evidence that the previous model fails to explain. The focus of this thesis' research is to bridge the hydrodynamic nature of the model with thermodynamics and to investigate the effect of anesthetics on the model.
