Projektbeskrivelse: Numerical experiments is an increasingly important tool for investigations of complicated physical scenarios. Many experiments create 4D dimensional datasets, showing how plasma configurations evolve in both space and time. To understand these experiments detailed data analysis is required. In the past this has been handled by visualisation software running on single CPU computers. As the usage of large parallel computers becomes increasingly common, the typical sizes of the datasets increase, and a limit is reached where single CPU computers no longer can provide real time data visualisation. The American parallel computing center at the Lawerence Livermore national Laboratory and a collaboration between Ktware, Sandia National Labs and CSimSoft have developed two independent visualisation packages that fully utilize parallel computers. To better understand the strength and weakness of the packages, an evaluation of the two products is required. Your task will be to test both of these packages and write a recommendation regarding which packages will be the best for us to start using.
Faglige perspektiver: Training in visualising large scale computer simulations. Familiarity with the Danish Center for Scientific Computing (DCSC-KU). Ability to learn using new software packages.
