From the Physics Olympiad in Denmark 2013

The International Physics Olympiad was held in Denmark for the first time in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Danish physicist Niels Bohr’s pioneering atomic model. Approximately 400 high school students from more than 80 countries came to Copenhagen to compete for gold, silver and bronze in the prestigious world championships in physics.

The Olympiad takes place over a week and students compete to see who is the best at solving theoretical and practical physics problems at a high level. The problems are translated into the students’ own language.

They are some of the brightest talents in physics and each country send a maximum of 5 students, who are selected after national competitions in each participating country. The Physics Olympiad was started in 1967 and there are now more than 80 participating countries. Denmark competed for the first time in 1996 and we have participated every year since.
