The Ministry of Science drops ranking list

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation acknowledges that the ministry's attempt to evaluate the universities using ranking lists of journals and publishers has failed.

Researchers from the universities' 68 departments were in such a fury over the final ranking list for 2008 that the Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation has decided to abandon it completely.

"We admit that the process has been unsatisfactory. The model was not good enough. That is why we are starting over with greater involvement from the researchers", explains Anette Dørge Jessen, section chief in the Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.

Accordingly, the list with the 20.000 journals has now been removed from the agency's website.
