Master Thesis Defence by Jakob Lass

A rudimentary introduction to the scattering framework as well as explanation of magnetic structures and their excitations will be presented. In order to understand neutron scattering and instrumentation an introduction will be given with an emphasis on the triple axis spectrometer and its properties.

The main focus of this thesis is the writing of a neutron scattering data treatment software package for the indirect geometry time of flight setup. This software includes the conversion and reduction necessary to treat the produced data and a handful of tools for visualization and fitting. Despite pure core functionality an emphasis is laid on usability and ease of use as these properties are essential promotion of the program. Further features are of great interest especially in the statistical treatment. Here resolution calculations and parameter extraction are among the most necessary.
