Title: Spin Matrix theory with chemical potentials

Spin Matrix theories were originally found as descriptions of N = 4 super Yang-Mills on a three-dimensional sphere near zero-temperature critical points in the grand canonical ensemble. However Spin Matrix theory is interesting in its own right as a model of the AdS/CFT correspondence.

In the defense I shall define Spin Matrix theory and discuss its phases thus explicating the analogy to AdS/CFT. A particular emphasis will be on the inclusion of chemical potentials for the high-temperature description. This includes calculations of partition functions for a few small-N Spin Matrix theories and the generalization of a semi-classical description using coherent states to include chemical potentials.
