Understanding Theoretical Uncertainties in Perturbative QCD Computations

To compare theoretical predictions and experimental results, we require not only a precise knowledge of the observables themselves, but also a good understanding of the uncertainty introduced by missing higher orders in perturbative QCD. In my talk, I present a method which combines effective field theories and perturbative QCD to predict the effect of New Physics on measurements at the LHC and at other future colliders. I use the expansion-by-regions formalism to obtain an improved narrow-width...

ALFA_CTPIN - a NBI hardware contribution to ATLAS

22 June 2015 kl. 13:15

Abstract:
During Long Shutdown 1 of LHC the ATLAS Central Trigger Processor was upgraded. The upgrade included many significant improvements, but did also mean that the input-output time was increased. For the Roman Pot based detector ATLAS sub-detector ALFA the trigger signals for level 1 trigger already before Long Shutdown  1 arrived only just inside the possible latency. The ATLAS Central Trigger Processor upgrade therefore meant that without a new implementation gaining significant time, there w...

FRET assay to probe Cytochrome P450 Reductase domain movements

Cytochrome P450 Reductase (POR) is a crucial redox enzyme acting as a molecular hub activating all microsomal Cytochrome P450s and controls a plethora of metabolic cascades. POR contains two domains, which binds the FAD and FMN cofactors, through which electron transfer occurs. POR is believed to have complex structural dynamics that are expected to contribute to its catalysis by controlling and limiting the electron transfer. However, to date, there is no reliable assay to probe POR dynamics an...

Title: Global simulations of relativistic jets with shocks and shear-flow
Dr. Ken-Ichi Nishikawa (Univ. of Alabama, Huntsville, Dept. of Physics)
We have investigated particle acceleration and shock structure associated with an unmagnetized relativistic jet propagating into an unmagnetized plasma. Strong magnetic fields generated in the trailing shock contribute to the electrons' transverse deflection and acceleration. The kinetic Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (kKHI) is also responsible to create strong DC and AC magnetic fields. Velocity shears in core-sheath jets create strong transverse magnetic fields, perpendicular to the jet. Simulat...

In this project the effect of background radiation induced by the interaction of cold/thermal neutrons from the source with the material of BIFROST spectrometer neutron guide is studied and a reasonable fast neutron shi...

The financial crisis, which started in 2008, spawned the HIPERFIT research center as a preventive measure against future financial crises. The goal of prevention is to be met by improving mathematical models for finance, the verifiable description of them in domain-specific languages and the efficient execution of them on high performance systems.
This work investigates the requirements for, and the implementation of, a high performance backend supporting these goals. This involves an outline of the hardware a...
