Controlling single-photon emitters with plasmon antennas in dielectric circuits

Abstract: State of the art nanophotonics uses either ultra-high Q microcavities or broadband plasmonic antennas to achieve strong coupling between photons and matter. I propose a hybrid antenna QED approach: plasmon antennas placed inside structured dielectric environments, such as moderate-Q resonators, to operate at practical quality factors (Q ~ 100-1000), yet plasmonic mode volumes.

In this talk, I will discuss recent experiments and theory aimed at understanding hybrid nanophotonic properties. In particular, I will show how the Purcell enhancement factor emerges from the properties of the constituent systems: the antenna, and the dielectric environment. I will also touch upon antennas borrowed from metamaterials, bringing magnetism and optical activity to plasmonics.
