Quantum Optics Colloquium

Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds can be used for sensing magnetic fields. Magnetic resonance is typically detected by measuring the amount fluorescence from the NV centers.

I will discuss two alternative approaches for magnetic field sensing, one based on electromagnetically induced transparency and one based on absorption of infrared light. Using those methods, we demonstrate sensing of

low- frequency (< 100s of Hz) magnetic fields with sensitivities of around 1 nT/sqrt(Hz).
