Thermodynamics of Higher Spin Black Holes

The recently proposed duality between higher spin gravity in AdS_3 and 2d CFT's with W-algebra symmetry has led to an interest in understanding the thermodynamics of AdS_3 black holes with higher spin charges. Since the concept of the black hole horizon is not invariant under higher-spin gauge transformations, one needs to look for alternative ways of defining the black hole entropy. I will review some general aspects of higher spin AdS_3 black holes and conclude with the recent paper 1302.0816, by de Boer and Jottar, which proposes general formulas for the energy and entropy of these black holes.
