Automated methods for annual layer counting of ice cores

Abstract
A brief introduction to two automated layer counting methods for use on ice-core signals, with examples from NGRIP chemistry. The first approach fits a detailed chronology using Markov chain Monte Carlo - a staple of Bayesian statistics. The second approach is more ad-hoc and provides less information about the time-scale, however it runs thousands of times faster.
