Quantum Optics Seminar by Prof. Gerhard Rempe

The techniques of optical cavity quantum electrodynamics makes it possible to fully control light and matter at the most fundamental level of single atoms and single photons, with the prospect of realizing e.g. a distributed quantum network. The talk reviews experiments where flying photons emitted by stationary atoms are used to entangle remote objects, including a Bose-Einstein condensate, and gives an outlook towards the implementation of coherent photon-photon interaction by means of a single atom.
