Gunnar Randers' Research Prize 2011

Professor Mogens H. Jensen from Denmark is awarded the prize for his groundbreaking basic research on complex matter systems.

The Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) has decided to award the Gunnar Randers' Research Prize for 2011 to

Mogens H. Jensen Professor, Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark

"for his groundbreaking basic research on complex matter systems"
Mogens H. Jensen has delivered outstanding contributions to many problems in modern physics, especially concerning phase transitions and critical phenomena, as well as in the theory of chaos, turbulence and complex systems.

His works have lead to increased fundamental understanding inside many areas of materials science, complex materials, and processes in biological systems.

Jensen has had good relations with Norwegian research communities for a number of years, through collaborative research, acting as a frequent referee for the Research Council of Norway, as opponent in doctor disputations on numerous occasions and he has also been program committee member and lecturer at many Advanced Study Institutes, the "Geilo Schools".

Gunnar Randers Research Prize was established in 2001 and is awarded every second year in recognition of work in the area of physics of condensed matter, specifically work leading to advances in basic knowledge, innovation or technological breakthrough. The amount of the award is NOK 100,000. -, a work of art and a diploma.

The Research Prize will be handed out at IFE in Kjeller in connection with an arrangement in May 2011.
