Monte Carlo Inversion of seismic reflection amplitudes

Abstract:
I present a Monte Carlo inversion method of AVA-data using the full nonlinear Zoeppritz equation for forward modelling of the P-wave reflection amplitude. The objective is to perform inversion for a full elastic description of a two layered homogeneous distributed earthmodel, at isotropic conditions. The inversion results are presented together with a detailed analysis of the problem, and a brief discussion of the methods ability to predict subsurface petrophysical properties. As an introduction to this research the fundamental seismic wave theory is presented.
