What do we know about the Eemian ice at NEEM?

Dorthe Dahl-Jensen, professor and Centre leader of Centre for Ice and Climate, will give a talk on Eemian Ice.

During the 2010 field season at NEEM we drilled through the oldest ice and reached bedrock at a depth of 2537m. We have zones with warm interglacial ice near the bead and also ice that seems to be older. Before the NEEM Steering Committee meeting in November 2010 measurement of methane and N2O where done over the abrupt changes found near the regions for warm ice and it was concluded the ice is disturbed here. Since November several additional measurements have been done. I will present the measurement and a first possible intepretation and open the floor for discussion.
