Review and simulation of Pregeometric Models
Wheeler suggested that geometry is not fundamental to physical phenomena and had to be replaced by a discrete model, a 'pregeometry ', in order to reconcile gravity with quantum mechanics.

According to Wheeler this pregeometry can only be discovered by studying non-geometric structures. Cellular automata show that simple dynamics can generate physical behavior over larger scales. By simulating discrete dynamics it may be possible to make progress by testing ideas. The results achieved so far are presented with some tentative conclusions.
