New tools of operator algebras in the study of Bell inequalities

In this talk we show how the theories of operator algebras and
operator spaces are the appropriate language to deal with Bell inequalities.
These inequalities, which were originally proposed by J.S. Bell in 1964 to
solve the famous criticism to Quantum Mechanics of Einstein, Podolsky and
Rosen, are today an indispensable tool in the development of Quantum
Information Theory. As an application of our operator-algebraic tools, we
solve an old question of B.S. Tsirelson by showing the existence of
tripartite Bell inequalities for which Quantum Mechanics predicts an
unbounded violation.
