Kristian Woller

Panspermia means "seeds everywhere", and is the theory of life originating in space. The background for the theory and its historical evolution will be discussed. The main focus of the talk will be on the evidence for panspermia and current research being carried out. This includes a range of topics such as the amount of cometary material captured by the Earth each year, why we have oceans, the possible liquid interior of comets in the early Solar System, and the viability of life in the vacuum of space. Current research including the recent discovery of naphthalene in the Interstellar Medium will be presented.
