An original micro-algae surviving to high radiations : neutron and NMR results

Over more than 15 years, micro-organisms have been growing in the radioactive water of Institut Laue-Langevin swimming pool where nuclear fuel elements are stored. We discovered the ability of a unicellular green algae to resist ionising radiation. We shall present recent results of metabolism and structural evolution of these organisms under irradiation obtained using neutron and NMR techniques.
