Genome Maintenance and Consequences

The genomes of all organisms are under constant attack both from within and environmental agents which could lead to cell death and mutagenesis. Multiple processes have evolved to handle the damage for cell survival, ranging from repair of the damage to activation of multiple signaling pathways to mutagenic replication of unrepaired damage. These processes are intricately interconnected among themselves and with cullular energy metabolism, transcription and translation. Some of these links are now becoming clear, and open for quantitative modeling
