Master's thesis defense by Ása Skúladóttir
DARK's Master's student, Ása Skúladóttir, will defend her
thesis entitled "The Faint Afterglow Spectra of GRB 090809 and GRB
100425A" Thursday 28 October at 14:00.
Abstract:
The study of faint afterglow spectra from the gamma-ray bursts GRB
090809 and GRB 100425A is presented. The spectra are observed with a
single target spectrograph, the X-Shooter, located at the Paranal
Observatory in Chile. The metallicities of the host galaxies of the two
gamma-ray bursts are determined. The results are then compared to known
samples of gamma-ray bursts. This thesis also includes a description of a
program written to automate
the reduction of X-Shooter science data, which is handled with the
X-Shooter pipeline provided by ESO (European Organization for
Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere).
